Our Lady of Fatima Icon Print

On May 13, 1917, Our Lady appeared to three shepherd children near Fatima, Portugal, and asked for prayer, penance, and the daily Rosary. She warned that peace for the world would come only through conversion of heart. Six months later, on October 13, tens of thousands witnessed the sun spin and fall toward the earth — the sign she had promised. Her feast is kept on May 13. This icon carries her call into your home: a plain, daily reminder to pray as she asked.

The icon is unique in that it carries 6 vignettes telling the Fatima story:
Icon Centerpiece
Our Lady of Fatima: the image of Our Lady as described by Sister Lucia
The children visionaries: Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia with halos as indicators of their holiness.
The Immaculate Heart of Mary - surrounded by a crown of thorns to represent her sorrows, and the banner "My Immaculate Heart will Triumph!"
A Vision of Hell: under their feet depicted as a “vast sea of fire” with “souls [of the damned] … transparent like burning embers, all blackened or burnished bronze, having human forms.”

Vignettes - clockwise from bottom left
The Angel of Peace: the vision of the angel who brought the children communion and gave them a message of prayer, reparation and sacrifice.
The Miracle of the Sun: during the final apparition of Our Lady, the crowned gathered witnessed the sun as though it was dancing. St. Joseph, the child Jesus and Our Lady in a blue mantle appeared beside the sun.
First Saturday Devotion: the Virgin Mary and child Jesus appeared to Sister Lucia in her convent cell.
Vision of the Trinity: Sister Lucia's vivid vision of the Holy Trinity - a cross appeared over the altar, with a man appearing above it and another nailed to the cross, a dove of light was over the chest of the man.
The Third Secret of Fatima: the angel with a flaming sword; a bishop dressed in white; a cross atop a mountain; and angels shouting, “Penance! Penance! Penance!”
Consecration of the world: Pope John Paul II with the bishops of the world consecrating the world, and with it Russia, to the Immaculate Heart.

This icon was featured by the National Catholic Register for its centennial telling of the Fatima story, and now hangs on permanent display at the National Blue Army Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima.
