It was late 2023 when I was contacted by the Diocese of Madison, Wisconsin, to commission an icon of Blessed Carlo Acutis. My client trusted me to create the image as I was led, so I began my usual routine of study and prayer. Of course, I already knew a little about Blessed Carlo. We share the same birthday, but it's always eye-opening when I begin to research, as there is so much to these saints when you look into them.

At the same time, sometimes, it's the prayers that contribute to the composition in remarkable ways, as I genuinely try to be led. Often, I feel “called” by confident artistic choices to the point that I can’t explain it otherwise. Such was the case when I decided to include the Divine Mercy image of Jesus in the Blessed Carlo Acutis icon.

I remember thinking Divine Mercy made an important statement, even though Blessed Carlo did not seem to have a unique devotion to Divine Mercy. This led people to ask about it, including one woman a few months ago who inquired how I knew back then that Blessed Carlo would be canonized on Divine Mercy Sunday.  That's a good question. All I can say is that the Holy Spirit knew.

As always, “Jesus, I Trust In You!”

The Icon was blessed by Cardinal Burke and holds a First- Class relic of Carlo Acutis. The icon continues to vist various churchs for veneration.
