As you may have read, I'll be traveling soon to Rome to accept an award for one of my Icons. The Marian International Award has been extended by the Pontifical International Marian Academy, or as many know it by, PAMI.
Nestled between the majestic Colosseum and the bustling Termini train station, PAMI finds its home attached to the Pontifical University Antonianum and the Basilica di Sant’Antonio in Laterano, a place where history and education come together to form a fervent prayer. Founded in 1946 by the Franciscan Friar Carlo Balić, PAMI is dedicated to exploring the Blessed Virgin Mary through thoughtful scholarship and heartfelt devotion, all while staying closely tied to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
Imagine strolling through Rome’s ancient streets, with the Colosseum’s grandeur just blocks away, and stepping into this haven where scholars, theologians, and devotees gather for International Marian Congresses, sharing insights and publishing treasures like the Acts and other Mariological works that deepen our love for Mary as a bridge of peace across cultures.
Since receiving the title of “Pontifical” from Pope John XXIII in 1959, PAMI has been a global coordinator of Marian studies, uniting societies worldwide as envisioned by Pope John Paul II. Its statutes, approved by Pope Paul VI and updated in 1995, guide a vibrant community of up to 80 Ordinary members (with at least 10 calling Rome or Lazio home) and Co-opted members, led by a President and Secretary appointed for five-year terms by the Holy Father, with roots in the Order of Friars Minor.
May we all be like PAMI’s scholars, toiling away in humble service to the Church and Mary in this sacred corner of Rome—where faith, art, and scholarship intertwine.
May Our Lady’s grace shine through every brushstroke!
