Our Lady of Hope - Icon Print

On the bitter cold evening of January 17, 1871, as Prussian troops advanced on the small French village of Pontmain, the Virgin Mary appeared in the night sky to a group of children — radiant, starlit, and silent at first, then bearing a message of consolation: But pray, my children. God will hear you in a short time. My Son allows Himself to be touched. That same night, the enemy advance inexplicably halted. Within days, an armistice ended the war. Our Lady of Hope — Notre-Dame de Pontmain — had interceded.

This icon depicts Our Lady of Hope in her dark blue star-studded mantle, arms opened in a gesture of welcome and intercession, flanked by candles and the red crucifix she bore during the apparition. The scroll at her side displays her words to the children of Pontmain. Her feast day is January 17.
