Our Lady of Guadalupe

Our Lady of Guadalupe is well-known for appearing to St. Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill in Mexico. The first apparition happened on December 9th, 1531, when she told St. Juan Diego to build a chapel in her honor. Juan Diego went to talk to the Archbishop of Mexico City, telling him about the vision. The archbishop would not listen to Juan Diego until December 12th, when Juan brought him golden roses arranged in his tilma by Our Lady. When Juan opened his tilma to show the archbishop the roses, a miraculous image of Our Lady wearing a blue robe decorated with stars had appeared.

December 12th is Our Lady of Guadalupe’s feast day, and St. Juan Diego’s tilma with the miraculous image is displayed in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
