Our Lady of Manaoag
The statue of Our Lady of Manaoag is located in the minor basilica of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary of Manaoag in the Philippines. She is made out of ivory and silver, and has many liturgical gowns and golden crowns.
The first vision attributed to Our Lady of Manaoag dates back to 1610, when a farmer saw her standing on clouds and holding the child Jesus. Our Lady told him where she wanted her church to be built.
Pope Pius XI granted a canonical coronation to Our Lady of Manaoag in 1925 and she is invoked in particular as the patroness of the sick, helpless, and needy.
This image is one of a group of eight commissioned for the Duke University Newman Center. The priest sponsoring this project wanted to feature the Marian apparitions which were most important to students from different countries around the world. Students from many countries were interviewed to select these eight apparitions of Our Lady. Together, the display is called Our Lady of The World, and the many ways that Our Lady has appeared to us remind us of her universal motherhood to all believers.
The eight images are: Our Lady of Aparecida, Our Lady of Czestochowa, Our Lady of Lavang, Our Lady of Manaoag, Our Lady of Kibeho, Our Lady of Vilankanni, Our lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Guadalupe. AMDG!
