In this icon print, Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, stands holding a Crucifix draped with a bower of the roses for which she is so well known.
Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, known as "The Little Flower," was born on January 2, 1873, in Alençon, France, into a devout Catholic family. From a young age, she exhibited deep religious fervor, eventually joining the Carmelite convent in Lisieux at age 15, after seeking special permission from Pope Leo XIII. Thérèse is renowned for her "Little Way," a spiritual path that emphasizes doing small acts with great love and trust in God. Her spiritual autobiography, "Story of a Soul," written at the request of her prioress, has become a cornerstone of Catholic spirituality, detailing her profound love for Jesus, her personal trials, and her unwavering faith.
Thérèse suffered from tuberculosis, enduring great pain until her death on September 30, 1897, at the age of 24. Despite her brief life, her impact on Catholic spirituality is immense, leading to her canonization by Pope Pius XI in 1925 and her designation as a Doctor of the Church by Pope John Paul II in 1997. She is the patroness of missionaries, florists, and the sick, and co-patron of France. Her feast day is celebrated on October 1, and the Basilica of Saint Thérèse in Lisieux remains a major pilgrimage site, drawing millions who seek inspiration from her simple yet profound approach to faith and love.
