The Diaconate Icon tells the story of the role of the deacon. From the hand of God through the Holy Spirit, grace flows to the Bishop as he ordains a new deacon — and through those deacons to the children of God in the many ways they carry out the Works of Mercy: feeding the needy, aiding the handicapped and the widow, visiting the imprisoned, burying the dead. Near the top of the icon are the chalice and a stole draped over the cross, with the symbols of the four Gospel writers at the tips. On the sides stand the two patron saints of deacons, St. Stephen and St. Lawrence. At the center, the words of Jesus: "I am in your midst as one who serves."

Printed on a special metallic and textured paper process that brings life and luminance to the art, emulating the appearance of original gold leaf.
