Our Lady of Lourdes
Created especially for E & H In celebration of their Wedding
This Icon was created for a very special couple their Window into Heaven holds many symbols:
- The first color used is green, which is symbolic of life. The visible parts of Our Lady, her face and hands, are first painted green so as to bring life to the icon.
- The second color is white, which represents the light of Christ. Those same areas receive white so as to bring Christ into the icon.
- Then the color of flesh is added to those parts, which in its turn brings humanity into the icon.
- When I paint the eyes, I pray those who venerate the icon will be drawn into the icon and will find a new devotion.
- The 24k gold is not only beautiful but is symbolic. The brilliant color symbolizes the Divine nature of Heaven, the uncreated light of God Himself. The gold brings Heaven into the icon.
- St. Bernadette said, “ I looked upon and caught sight of the cave where I saw a lady wearing a lovely white dress with a blue belt. On the top of each of her feet was a gold rose, the same color as her rosary beads."
- Within the image are forty-seven yellow roses that surround Our Lady, which represent the forty-seven years Jane brought joy to her family, friends, and all she came in contact with.
- Two small white roses have been painted at the foot of Our Lady in memory of both your Mother and Father.
- When the icon was completed instead of signing the icon like most artist do, I hide the letters AMDG, which is the Latin acronym for Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, meaning For the greater glory of God. This icon was written for HIS Greater Glory!
- May Our Lady’s Grace and Love rain down on you both always and especially on your wedding day.
