The Sacred Heart of Jesus ready to frame print
This image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is painted in the Western style. Christ is presenting his heart to the viewer with one hand and blessing them with the other. The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus began in France in the 17th century and emphasizes the love of Jesus for all people and his suffering on behalf of all sinners.
The original icon is in St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church in California. The jewels in Christ’s crown were donated by the women of the Heart of Mary women’s group, and is a companion to the Jeweled Immaculate Heart icon, which hangs in the same church.
Decorating icons with real jewels is very traditional in the Eastern Church. Famous icons such as Our Lady of Częstochowa are embellished with many jewels which have been donated by members of the faithful as offerings to the Church.
