Saint Francis of Assisi Icon was painted in thanksgiving of our new pope. The original icon measured 12x12, acrylic, 24K gold. I painted this icon when I knew I would be making a Pilgrimage to Rome and Medjugorji.
About the icon - Francis was in the Chapel of San Damiano and heard God's voice speak clearly to him from the crucifix saying, "Francis, Go and rebuild my Church, which you can see has fallen into ruin." Francis believed initially that the call was to a literal, physical rebuilding of the Church...only later did he realize the call was to a spiritual rebuilding.
While Francis was praying on the mountain of Verma, during a forty-day fast a six winged angel gave francis the gift of the five wounds of Christ.
